Thanks to our wonderful adopters, the following dogs have found their "Smiley Tails!" We appreciate our adopters and love getting updates from our dogs!
Rainier was languishing in the South LA shelter for 6 months when Smiley Tails Rescue, in partnership with another LA rescue, decided to pull him. He is the sweetest senior who was deemed "Rescue Only" and was also suffering from a URI, and thus put on their code red list. Rainier's foster had him for 3 months before this wonderful couple applied for him on Christmas Day, and Rainier found his forever home in time to celebrate the New Year!
Monty was a South LA shelter dog with a bite history. Not wanting him to get euthanized, Smiley Tails pulled him and worked with several trainers to help him become more adoptable. Turns out, Monty was just afraid of being in the shelter and new situations, since he was a real sweetheart in his foster home! It took a few months for our quirky boy to find his forever home, but when he did, it was the perfect one! He now lives in Las Vegas with his dream family and his foster mom even got to visit him recently!
Berkey came to us from the North Central shelter. He had been there for several months and was not doing well cooped up in the kennel because of his high energy level. Smiley Tails pulled him and he was only at his foster home for less than three weeks, since who could resist that infectious bulldog smile? Berkey now enjoys sunning or doing sprints around his own large, private backyard!
Our volunteer first alerted us to Panther, a black pitbull with clipped ears and huge marbly eyes, at a high-kill county shelter, and offered to foster him for us. We knew he had zero chance at the shelter, but little did we know that it would be a long (but worth every day and penny) six month journey for us to find him a home! Panther is kind, goofy, dog friendly, LOVES people and kids, and yet the negative stereotypes against pitbulls would always hinder him from finding a good home. We sent him to a board and train to help improve his chances and, from that moment on, his life was transformed. Brent LaBrada, owner and trainer of Canis Behavior and Training, understood exactly what Panther needed to become the best boy he was meant to be. And, as we all knew, Panther excelled. We are so proud of our little black bear!
A kind and wonderful woman named Erin was one of the first to apply for Panther. Her application caught our attention immediately because everything she described in her dream dog was exactly Panther. Erin wasn’t having the easiest year either and understood exactly what Panther was going through. She wanted him and he needed her. Now Panther's days are filled with cuddles, napping, chewing on toys, zooming around the backyard, and going for walks.
A message from Erin to Panther: “I fell in love with you right away and continue to do so everyday. Especially with your random zoomies, loud snoring naps, very well-timed farts, and thinking you are a lap dog… I will always fight for you and be by your side. I promise to give you the best life and always be there to give you cuddles and unconditional love. You are our family and are one of us. Welcome to the family Panther.”
Helping Panther took a village, and we have a long list of people to thank, but we started STR to help dogs like Panther, and we are so grateful that we could give one amazing dog a chance. We love you Little Sweet Black Bear!
